When were chakras discovered?

by Veronica Molinski

The chakra system originated in India between 1500 and 500 BC, in the oldest text called the Vedas. Evidence of chakras, spelled chakra, is also found in the Shri Jabala Darshana Upanishad, the Upanishad Cudamini, the Yoga-Shikka Upanishad and the Shandilya Upanishad. According to the tradition of yoga and many New Age practices, chakras are vital centers of energy that exist in all of us. While these constantly rotating energy vortices are not visible to the human eye, they are believed to be essential to our continued development and health as human beings, says Karla Helbert, licensed counselor, yoga therapist and author of The Chakras in Grief and Trauma.

According to Helbert, chakras constantly move at different speeds in an effort to maintain homeostasis in the body, each of which governs different physical and mental components of our being. The three lower chakras are linked to our “earthly existence”, including our instinct for survival, reproduction and self-confidence. The heart chakra is linked to empathy and acceptance of others, and the three upper chakras are linked to less physical attributes, such as self-expression, intuition and “our connection to the divine”. In modern times, the chakra system has been related to the endocrine system, with certain glands correlated with certain chakras, says Helbert.

For example, the root chakra correlates with the testicles or ovaries, the throat chakra with the thyroid gland, and the heart chakra with the thymus. Each of these endocrine glands supposedly has something to do with the functions associated with that chakra. Other research efforts have investigated similar healing energy systems. Several studies have also looked at Reiki, a Japanese healing and energy technique that employs the use of gentle physical touch, and its impact on reducing anxiety, depression and pain, as well as improving well-being.

Research has shown that the technique can be effective, but scientists do not know the mechanism behind its success, for example, if it is because this energy works or if the practice itself is simply relaxing, reducing the impact of stress on the mind and body. But Jain expects this to change. And that, Jain says, is a code worth cracking. Scientists have finally mapped the entire human genome: why caffeine affects people.

VAM is the seed mantra of the element Water, which is installed in svādhiṣṭhāna (at least, in the seven-chakra system you know). In the 10th century, the Gorak¬shash¬ata¬kam (Guru Gorakhnath) gave information about the powers of awakening and meditating on the chakras. For example, a man with a blockage in his root chakra (Muladhara) may have a lot of heavy and dense energy. These chakras were also symbolically mapped to specific human physiological capacity, seed syllables (bija), sounds, subtle elements (tanmatra), in some cases deities, colors and other motifs.

So when people talk about chakras affecting your mood, your health, your organs, your emotional “vibration”, etc., what they really mean is your internal balance of hormones. We will also see how the chakras were given their individual colors, and whether the rainbow of chakra colors is fact or fiction. All of these sources have given rise to the system of the 7 chakras that acclaim the theological and esoteric communities of the world. Hunt used electrodes at several points along the chakra system, for example, an electrocardiogram in the heart to measure energy changes in the body.

The practitioner places his hands on each chakra point, charging each individual chakra one by one. But after a few days, I realized that I was wrong, a simpler version of the same seven-chakra system is found in a post-biblical text from the 13th century called Śāradā-tilaka, although that text clearly recognizes that there are multiple chakra systems (such as 12 or 16 chakra systems). Yoga adepts can use specific asanas from tantric hatha yoga to load or balance each chakra within the tantric tradition. The chakras do not literally describe what is in the subtle body, but rather give instructions on how to work with it.

Chakra meditation is when you perform a meditation with your attention focused on a specific center of the body: a chakra. . .
